How clear aligners work
Why should you care about orthodontics?
ClearCorrect: Before & After
What Is ClearCorrect?
ClearCorrect is an orthodontic treatment system that relies on custom-fit plastic trays called aligners to shift teeth into their ideal positions. These aligners can be used to correct most of the issues addressed by conventional metal braces, including underbites, overbites, and crossbites, however, it’s not always the ideal solution. Scheduling a consultation and evaluation is the best way to learn if Clear Correct is the best choice for your specific alignment issues.
This question runs through most of our patient’s minds: “Is ClearCorrect better than metal braces?”
ClearCorrect provides a few advantages over metal braces:
- The clear aligners are nearly invisible while being worn.
- There are no sharp wires or brackets to irritate the soft tissues of the mouth.
- The aligners can be removed to eat and to perform routine care, so it’s much easier to brush and floss, and there are no dietary restrictions.
- Each set of aligners is custom-designed based on the individual patient’s needs, so treatment often can be completed much more quickly compared to traditional metal braces.
What Happens During ClearCorrect Orthodontic Treatment?
Treatment begins with a series of impressions and measurements which are sent to the lab where the aligners will be made. The impressions, or molds, and measurements are fed into a computer which creates 3D models that show how the teeth need to move over time to come into alignment. These models serve as the basis for the aligners. The number of models – and the number of aligners – varies from one patient to another. During the duration of treatment, each aligner will be worn for about two weeks before being “traded in” for the next aligner in the series. Changing aligners every couple of weeks helps to keep teeth moving in the right directions. Office visits take place about every 6 weeks, and most treatments can be completed within two years or less – sometimes even less than a year.
Oral care is much easier with ClearCorrect as it can be removed to brush and floss. It’s also easier to eat because you must remove them to eat or drink anything except water, on the other side, ClearCorrect must be worn to work, and since it can be removed, sometimes people are not compliant with wearing them.
